DEIS Supports and Student Benefits
At St Vincent’s Secondary School in Cork, participation in the DEIS (Delivering Equality of Opportunity in Schools) programme reflects the school’s commitment to tackling educational disadvantage and ensuring every student has the support they need to succeed. DEIS is Ireland’s main initiative to promote equity in education, providing additional resources and targeted supports to help students stay engaged and achieve their full potential.
As part of this DEIS framework, the school offers a range of valuable supports designed to enhance student wellbeing, attendance, participation and academic progress:
Key Supports Available:
Breakfast Club & School Lunches: Students can start their day with a nutritious meal and enjoy school-provided lunches, helping to support health, concentration and attendance. Through DEIS, schools can also run breakfast clubs and other nutrition supports to benefit learners.
Homework Club & Supervised Study: Structured after-school sessions give students a dedicated space, guidance and support to complete homework and reinforce learning.
School Completion Programme: This initiative works with students both during and outside school time to boost engagement, enhance social skills, and help young people stay in school through to completion—offering activities like clubs, one-to-one support and transition supports for key stages.
Home-School-Community Liaison (HSCL): The HSCL teacher builds strong partnerships between home and school, encouraging parental involvement, monitoring attendance, and linking families with services to support student development.
Additional Supports: Students and families also benefit from pastoral care, student wellbeing initiatives, extra tuition and career guidance, helping to nurture confidence, academic success and progression.
Through these DEIS-aligned supports, St Vincent’s fosters a positive and inclusive learning environment where every student can thrive socially and academically
